Sedona vortex attractions

Slide Rock located just north of Sedona is one of the areas most popular attractions and has been listed in Life Magazine as one of America's ten most beautiful swimming holes.
Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon, was originally the 43 acre apple farm of the Pendley Homestead. Frank L. Pendley acquired the farm under the Homestead Act in 1910. He was able to create a successful farm because of his innovative irrigation system. This system is still in use at the park today. The apple orchards were planted in 1912.
The park gets it's name from stretch of slippery creek bottom adjacent to the homestead. Visitors to the park can slide down a slick natural water chute or wade and sun bathe along the creek. The swimming area is located on National Forest land which is jointly managed by Arizona State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service.
The Slide Rock State Park is almost a mile high at 5,000 feet. It's a great spot for residents of Phoenix to visit in order to beat the summer heat of the desert. Bring your camera for great landsapes and great views from the trails at the park. Hiking trails range from easy to moderate.
Pendley Homestead Trail: this quarter mile "easy" trail is great for everyone and it's paved. The trail takes you through part of the Pendley Homestead. You'll see the original apple orchards, the tourist cabins and many of the farm implements used to work the farm. You can get great shots of the walls of Oak Creek Canyon from this hike.
Slide Rock Route: this trail is a bit longer and is more strenuous (moderate hike). This hike is the main access to the swim area for Slide Rock. It's on this hike where you can access the actual slide rock.
Clifftop Nature Trail: another quarter mile trail that starts near the apple barn and offers scenic views of the Slide Rock Swim Area. Take your camera.
Leave your pets at home as they are not allowed in the park.

How to get there: From Phoenix take I-17 north to Hwy 179 drive west through Sedona to Hwy 89A north. Slide Rock State Park is 7 miles north of Sedona. If you're coming from Flagstaff: Take Hwy 89A, 20 miles south.
